Adelaide

Get ready to party at the Pride March Adelaide (Click Here)

Pride March Adelaide celebrates Adelaide’s LGBTIQ love, strength and diversity each year with a joyous march through the streets of Adelaide in November.

Pride Marches worldwide celebrate the courage, solidarity, resilience and contribution of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) people.

Adelaide’s first Pride March was held 40 years ago in 1973 when homosexuality was still illegal. The 40th anniversary of that first Pride March was celebrated in 2013 with an exhibition and program of events based at the State Library of South Australia.

Adelaide’s second Pride March was held 30 years later. Pride March has grown to become one of the biggest, best loved events on the Adelaide community calendar.  Everyone is welcome to join in.

Darwin

32 Years young is the Darwin Pride Festival (Click Here)

In 1985, a group of passionate Darwinites came together to create the very first Darwin Pride Festival – promoting diversity, equality and celebrating LGBTIQ communities. These brave individuals shined the spotlight on issues that needed to change and celebrated what already made us shine. Three decades on, we’re continuing what they began!

Midsumma Festival is Victoria’s premier queer arts and cultural Festival, for and by LGBTQIA+ communities.

For three weeks over Summer 2017, Melbourne and surrounding areas was home to a spectacular program of over 130 visual arts, performance, film, parties, sports, talks and social events as part of Midsumma Festival.

The 2017 Festival was punctuated by three signature outdoor events. Midsumma Carnival opening the Festival with an all-day-and-night party-in-the-park at Melbourne’s Alexandra Gardens. Midsumma Pride March, Melbourne’s iconic march of solidarity and celebration, rolling through the streets of St Kilda in the second week of the Festival. The final weekend exploding with Midsumma Horizon, a new-art party at Testing Grounds tucked away in Melbourne’s CBD. And the best thing: they are all free!

Held annually since 1988 Midsumma Festival has become one of Australia’s most significant arts and cultural Festivals. Midsumma works year-round to provide artists with support and tools to create, present and promote their work at Midsumma Festival.

Perth

Celebrate diversity at The Perth Pride Parade (Click Here)

Pride Western Australia Incorporated (Pride WA) is Western Australia’s largest community group, representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex community.

Originally incorporated in 1993 as Lesbian & Gay Pride (WA) Incorporated, Pride WA has its roots in the 1989 march on Parliament, during the contentious debate about the decriminalisation of sex between consenting men in WA.

Since then, Pride WA has grown to stage our community’s largest and favourite events and played an important role in campaigning for gay and lesbian law reform, which saw all State-based discriminatory laws abolished in 2002.

The Sunshine Coast Pride Festival is an LGBTIQ event organised by a dedicated Committee of volunteers and is about providing a safe and fun environment for LGBTIQ people, their family and friends, to come together and celebrate our diversity.

Commencing in 2007, the Festival was an initiative of the Queensland Aids Council (QuAC) to engage with the local LGBTIQ community.

Since our humble beginning, we have grown to become a weekend-long Festival, with a variety of events, activities and entertainment to cater for all ages and interests.

Sydney

Australia’s largest festival – The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras! (Click Here)

Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is the non-for-profit member-based organisation that organises the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and Festival as well as number of other events throughout the year. SGLMG exists primarily to develop the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for the benefit of Sydney’s LGBTQI community, the enjoyment of a wider audience and as a global beacon of diversity, acceptance and LGBTQI rights. We aim to raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex communities. We do this through:

  • Providing the opportunity for LGBTQI individuals and groups to use the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras as a statement of pride and to promote a broader message of diversity and acceptance;
  • Anchoring the Parade in a broader program of cultural and social activities for the enjoyment of local audiences and to attract visitors to Sydney;
  • Providing resources and opportunities to our community for creative and political expression;
  • Embracing individuals and groups from the broader community who share our vision;
  • Constantly improving creativity and production values on our events, including bringing the world’s best artists, thinkers and entertainers to Sydney.

Our chief sources of funds are events such as Mardi Gras Party and sponsorship. These allow us to put on the Parade and to cover the costs of other events such as Fair Day.

In short, our purpose and action for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is: We inspire the world to love each other by celebrating the power and beauty of diversity.

Tasmania

Don’t forget to head down to Tassie for the TasPride Festival (Click Here)

TasPride has been around for over 20 years now!  We began back in the day when a small group of concerned people met in December 1992 in Hobart to discuss the possibility of establishing a Gay and Lesbian Community Centre, essentially to be a focus for support, resources and communication in the wider gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Things have moved on dramatically since then, and the group that was originally incorporated as The GLC Centre Inc changed its name and focus in 2009 to TasPride. We’re still dedicated to celebrating, uniting and promoting the Tasmanian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer community, through providing opportunities for everyone to come together and share our pride.

We produce the TasPride Festival each year and host several other events throughout the year. We also promote a wide range of activities produced all year round by the many GLBTIQ organisations in Tasmania.
